Prof. Sampath S. Seneviratne

Professor in Zoology, Department of Zoology and Environment Sciences, University of Colombo

Leading evolutionary ecologist and ornithologist specialising in island biogeography, molecular ecology, speciation, and the evolution of endemic traits. His research combines field studies and genomic tools to investigate avian diversity, migration, and conservation that work highly relevant to protecting Sri Lanka’s urban wetlands, secondary forests, and wildlife corridors. Founder of the Avian Evolution Node (AviEN) research group and Laboratory for Molecular Ecology and Evolution. He brings deep expertise in translating scientific insight into practical conservation action

Dr. Jinendra Dissanayake

Senior Lecturer, Department of Plant Sciences, University of Colombo

Plant scientist and environmental researcher specialising in urban green spaces, tree diversity, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity conservation. Her work applies GIS, remote sensing, and ecological modelling to map and protect urban vegetation, assess land-use impacts, and support climate-resilient plant systems. With prior experience in IUCN’s Business and Biodiversity Programme, she brings practical expertise in linking scientific research to sustainable urban planning and conservation action.
